O pé é unha unidade de lonxitude de orixe natural (baseada no pé humano), xa utilizada polas civilizacións antigas.


O pé romano, ou pes, equivalía a 29,57 cm; o pé castelán a 27,6 cm.


Actualmente foi substituído en case todo o mundo polas unidades do Sistema Internacional de Unidades (SI), salvo no uso corrente nos países anglosaxóns.

Sistema anglosaxón |


En inglés, a medida «pé» escríbese foot, plural feet, a abreviatura é ft ou ' (comiña simple).


Equivalencias:


  • 1 pé = 12 polgadas

  • 1 pé = 30,48 centímetros

  • 1 polgada = 2,54 centímetros

Actualmente o «pé» utilízase só como unidade de medida popular nos Estados Unidos e o Reino Unido, e aínda se emprega en aeronáutica e tamén, fóra dos países anglosaxóns, para expresar a altitude de avións e outros vehículos aéreos. A adopción por estes países do Sistema Internacional hai xa uns anos irá facendo caer en desuso esta unidade, tamén nestes países.



Pé de agrimensura |


Para o acotamiento de terras e costas, o Sistema Público de Agrimensura de Terras de Estados Unidos utiliza unha variedade chamada «pé de agrimensura», cuxa lonxitude equivale a 30,4800609601219 centímetros.



Pé madeireiro (ou pé taboleiro) |


Na industria da madeira é usual utilizar o «pé madeireiro», tratándose neste caso dunha unidade de volume. O seu valor é o que corresponde a unha peza cadrada de 1 pé de lado e 1 polgada de espesor.
