A polgada é unha medida de lonxitude antropométrica que equivalía á lonxitude dun polgar. En inglés chámase inch.

A polgada foi substituída en gran parte do mundo por unidades do SI. As equivalencias son:


  • Actualmente en uso
    • 1 polgada (Sistema imperial británico) = 2,54 cm.

  • Obsoletas
    • 1 polgada (Sistema castelán de Filipe II) = 2,32166 cm.

    • 1 polgada (Aragón) = 2,14 cm.

    • 1 polgada (México) = 2,3278 cm.


A polgada imperial segue en uso, aínda que confinada sobre todo a Estados Unidos. En 1958 definiuse que a polgada imperial equivalería a exactamente 2,54 centímetros.

Nota:
Cando se fala de roscas de gas en polgadas, esta medida non se refire directamente ao diámetro da rosca. Para coñecer a medida exacta do diámetro o mellor é acudir a un prontuario mecánico. Buscar como rosca "Briggs" americana para tubos de gas, auga e vapor.
Por exemplo rosca G1/4 --> Diámetro exterior medio = 12,12 mm
