O International Standard Name Identifier ou ISNI é unha base de datos que xestiona un método para identificar de forma unívoca as persoas que colaboran con contidos nos medios de comunicación, como libros, programas de televisión, artigos de xornais ou revistas, etc. Este identificador consiste en dezaseis cifras divididas en cadanseu bloque de catro.


Exemplo: o número ISNI de Alfonso Daniel Rodríguez Castelao é 0000 0001 0856 5397.


Foi desenvolvida baixo o auspicio da Organización Internacional para a Estandarización (ISO) coa súa norma internacional ISO-27729, publicada o 15 de marzo de 2012. A subcomisión novena do comité técnico 46 é a responsábel do seu desenvolvemento. O ISNI pode ser empregado para a desambigüación de nomes que, doutro xeito, poderían confundirse, e ligan os datos sobre estas persoas, que son recollidos e utilizados en tódolos sectores da industria dos medios de comunicación. No ano 2014, o banco de datos do ISNI contiña máis de oito millóns de identidades, ou sexa, 7,53 millóns de persoas e 490 000 organizacións. Nela colaboran 29 institucións e bases de datos, así como corenta bibliotecas nacionais e de investigación. Intégranse tamén os datos do rexisto Virtual International Authority File (VIAF).[1]
