Die Haringhaaie (Lamnidae) is 'n kraakbeenvis-familie wat hoort tot die orde Lamniformes. Daar is drie genera met vyf spesies wat hoort tot dié familie en vier van die spesies kom aan die Suid-Afrikaanse kus voor.

Kenmerke |


Die familie het vyf kieue splete met die tweede dorsale en anale vinne baie kleiner as die eerste dorsale vin. Die stertvin se boonste lob is langer as die onderste lob. Die familie kan tot 2 000 kg swaar word en kom voor vanaf die oppervlakte tot by 1 280 m.
