Áspide (Vipera aspis), un animal ovovivíparo.


A ovoviviparidade é un tipo de desenvolvemento embrionario dos animais no que as femias poñen ovos, pero estes permanecen dentro do corpo da nai até a súa eclosión. Esta pode producirse inmediatamente antes do parto, ou inmediatamente después da posta.
O ovoviviparismo ten aspectos en común tanto coa oviparidade como coa viviparidade.


Presentan ovoviviparidade ou ovoviviparismo moitos tiburóns e outros peixes, algúns réptiles e diversos animais invertebrados. Os tiburóns e as serpentes son dous grupos nos que se encontran exemplos dos tres modos de desenvolvemento temperán (xestación e nacemento): ovíparo, ovovivíparo e vivíparo.


Dicimos que unha especie é ovovivípara cando presenta ovoviviparidade.
